Farm life

Howdy!

Sneakpeak to my everyday life in Canada.

It's been a long time since I have written here. Time flies and I can't believe I have been here two months already. My everyday life is busy but in a positive way and days are full of lot to do. Most people who know me, know that I like to stay really busy and that haven't changed here :D

School system here is way different than in Finland, but mostly in a good way.
I really like the after school clubs-system and I'm part of our schools basketball- and swimming team and Interact club (Rotary club in school). I'm gonna make another post of school system here but I really like school here, i have lot of friends and teachers are awesome! I'm in grade 12 (senior) and because i'm turning 18 in January I do adult grad in the spring. This semester I'm taking competitive PE (Physical Education), Pre-calc 12 (aka pitkä matikka joka ei oo pitkää matikkaa nähnykkää :D), English 11 and Civics 11.

My host family is awesome and we get along very well. Dale and Maxine are really generous people with big heart, and I'm really happy to call them my host parents and this house my home. We even have our own humour. (And Maxine is an awesome chef!) They have showed me the real Canadian culture and took me to many places.

Old style threshing with Dale and Alex..

Lucy and me

..and threshing nowadays

Farm where I live, Windcharger Heritage

I live in a 80 acres farm with my parents, 20 beautiful Shire horses and two barn cats, Isis and Lucy.
I have been threshing and helped to wash and brush the horses. I would love to spend more time with the animals but usually my afternoons are so full with sports and other activities that I don't have had time.
I have lot of new hobbies and sports that I do here. I do basketball, swimming, yoga, curling and Interact. Maxine and me are also part of choir and go singing to elders house few times in a month. I go to the Rotary meetings every week on Friday mornings. I really like my club and it's amazing to see  how much they have done and do for our community.

My good friends Chase and Keisha

Halloween was really neat experience here! We went trick or treating with my friends and got so much candy and had lot of fun even tho it was freaking cold. All the houses very decorated with the halloween theme. I was a red riding hood (punahilkka) and got second in our school costume competition.

Sara, Eryn and me

My lil pumpkin!

I'm missing my cat Orvokki so Maxine took me to local animal shelter SPCA to pet kittens <3

It was honour to meet Dawson Creeks mayor Dale Bumstead! We had a great talk about local politics and youth councils in Finland. Hope we get one here too ;)

Remembrance day. Dale wearing his Airborne Association suit.

We had dinner at Marlanas and Jasons place with all my lovely host families. It was fun night!

Wine and wiener fundraising dinner at our place

Ducks Auction sale dinner with family. I won an ukulele!! (If someone knows how to play, please contact me, my playing sounds terrible :D)

Doing cattle drive with Marlana and her uncle; we took 100 cows to spend their winter in a different field.

Pizza, filipino food, scary movies with Keisha, Chase and Selah!

We did a road trip to Edmonton with members from both Rotary clubs. We had a bus and drove 600 kilometres and went to see Rotary dinner theatre in Westlock. It was really funny and we had a great time.
We stayed in a hotel and went to West Edmonton mall next day. It's the worlds 5th biggest mall so we  were really pumped and excited with Eryn and Hanna. We spent 10 hours shopping, went to movies and eating in restaurants. We were pretty tired after that day!

We went watching Keeping up with Jonesess

My fav twins, Eryn and Hanna!

(Pictures are not in a time order)

Right now life is really good and I think I have adapted well to Canadian culture.
I'm so proud of my new home country and thankful to live in such a caring and active community as Dawson Creek!

xx Roosa
